After three years of a sole misguided post on GOOGLE Maps from Mr Hoffman ( see other post), I feel compelled to reply. You see, I am the physician who treated Mr . Hoffman's mother in the ER at Delnor Hospital. Unfortunately, since I do not have permission to discuss this particular case in detail due to HIPPA laws, I can discuss in broad strokes the management of a patient similar to Mr. Hoffman's mother.
First off, I am a seasoned physician with more that 140,000 patient encounters over a lengthy successful career. I see any range of problem, as you may imagine. So lets speak about a hypothetical.
An elderly female come to see me who has a history of renal insufficiency ( her kidneys are not functioning correctly). Her family notes that she has developed swelling and is concerned about possibly worsening kidney function. At that point, simplistically, I check into her kidney function and indeed it seems worse. Do I A) Rush to hospitalization and potential dialysis? or B) Do a diligent search for other factors that may be compromising her kidneys so the kidney function is worsened?
Urinary tract infections and dehydration are two among many factors that may explain worsening kidney function. When the search for the cause of worsening function yields an infection in the urinary tract, antibiotic therapy aimed at correcting that "UTI" may indeed correct the kidney function back to it's baseline.
The scenario Mr Hoffman presents, given this hypothetical, may be misguided. Kidney function may have been worsened, but the point is that addressing the UTI to try to deal with the root cause of the worsening kidney function, which may have been never in doubt per my hypothetical. This scnario follows sound medical decision making.
I would hope this explanation helps one understand the thought process ant treatment options here. I feel it's pretty unfair to brand me as Mr Hoffman has without a grasp of the thought process and management options at hand. Seems his mind was made up withoout fully grasping the treatment rationalle.
